HeroesCon 2024 - RIB04

HeroesCon 2024

TLDR: Go to HeroesCon

HeroesCon 2024 was my first convention, ever. It also happened to take place in my hometown, so I figured I’d see what it was about. I know it seems a bit odd that I haven’t gone before, given that in the whole nation this convention is probably the largest that has a majority focus on actual comic books, but I really hope that you’ll believe me when I say that I love comics and have since a very young age.

Unfortunately, due to life circumstances, I could only attend on Sunday with $200 to spare. This will be a very short blog, I detailed everything I bought over on X so if you want pictures of all the cool loot, head on over there.

I’ll get this out of the way immediately, the only real conversations I had with people at the con were Drew Moss and a stranger I met in line for the Chris Claremont signing. We shot the shit about the usual, favorite comics, the state of things, etc. but I don’t think anything would excite you, dear reader. One interesting thing is that Mr. Moss told me about how important floppy sales are while he was signing my copy of Thundercats 2024 #1 after I had asked him how long the current Thundercats run was meant to go on for. I thought that was a real shame because I, and so many others I know, only really buy collected editions. On the bright side, Mr. Moss was super nice and the only creator who really tried to talk to me out of all the ones I met (he was also the youngest, no shade though) but without further ado let me tell you what I got:

  1. A print signed by Jim Starlin of Thanos standing in front of Eternity
  2. The Drew Moss signature I talked about earlier, as well as a holographic Spider-Ham sticker he gave me and my brother
  3. A Death Dealer print from the Frazetta Art Museum booth along with a small art card
  4. A collector’s edition variant of IDW’s G.I. Joe: ARAH #289 signed by Larry Hama himself
  5. A signed copy of MEZO #1
  6. A signed Simon Bisley variant of the TMNT Out of Time Annual
  7. Lastly, a blank cover of Giant-Size X-Men #1 signed with an inscription by Chris Claremont himself

That’s all I got and saw. I missed plenty of booths such as Kamen America’s, DWJ’s (the Energon Universe is so good), and Four Horsemen Studios, I also missed out on seeing the Art Auction (DWJ had a super cool painting up for grabs) and any other events but hopefully next year I can attend with more money and time. Despite my limited access to the con, I still had an absolute blast. It was one of the coolest days I’ve gotten to experience and I’m grateful for it.

HyperMall: Unlimited Violence Review - RIB19

HyperMall: Unlimited Violence Review Disclaimer: I asked for and was provided a review copy. Unfortunately, I’ve started up university again and am experiencing the busiest semester I’ve ever had. As such this is a mere overview, it’s my thoughts about the game after reading through the core book. I simply do not have the time to play sessions to an extent that is reasonable for releasing a thorough review, though I expect this to change in the coming weeks (hopefully). I’d like to extend my apologies to the creator for taking so long in writing this, as my intent was to help the associated Kickstarter campaign, but luckily as I’m writing this the funding goal has been met. TLDR: This project is extremely unique, creative, and humorous. I think that if you’ve got the right people around you then it would make for an unforgettable experience. The art, aesthetic, and humor alone make this worth checking out, even if you don’t see yourself playing ...

Heading Into 2025, A Year in Review - RIB24

Heading Into 2025, A Year in Review         Happy New Year! I wanted to thank everyone for the support I’ve had since founding Destrier Studios just over a year ago. I’ve interacted with many wonderful people, learned more than I ever have about all sorts of beautiful things, and have made great strides in my personal life. I’m heading into my last semester of college, the future isn’t too clear after that but I remain optimistic and look forward to stepping into a new part of my life. I’m only 22 and yet I feel that I started this business later than I should’ve. Had I done so earlier, I wouldn’t be behind in so many skills I still need in order to make my dreams come true. Nevertheless, there’s no time like the present, and so I’ve recently been making a concerted effort to study graphic design (excuse the poor format of this blog, I plan to remedy that in time), art, coding, game design, and...

I, Napoleon Review - RIB18

I, Napoleon Review Disclaimer: I asked for and was provided a review copy of the game. I played it multiple times, until I felt that I had achieved the best ending, which to me is a mix of achieving 100 or more glory, having a legitimate son, and bringing peace to Europe all in one run. TLDR: I, Napoleon  is a very engaging solitaire game. The setup and playtime is long, so it is best played on one of those days where you have an evening to yourself and are free of responsibilities. It takes a bit to get the hang of but does a great job of making you feel like the man himself, with all the glory and tension that come with the role.          I, Napoleon  marks a professional achievement for me. It’s the first board/war game I’ve asked for a review copy of, and I made a good choice. I was nervous asking for it, but the individual who helped me out at GMT Games was very nice and the process was butter-smooth. I first learned about the game ...
