What If? Iron Man: Demon in an Armor (2010) Review - RIB13

What If? Iron Man: Demon in an Armor (2010) Review Disclaimer: Yes, I only read this because of the announcement. No spoilers. TLDR: It’s a good story, pretty short but if you’re a fan of the character and the scenario intrigues you then it’s worth a quick read.         As most people reading this probably know by now, Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to the MCU to play Dr. Doom in the 2026 Avengers movie. As cheap as it is, it’ll make them money and I like the actor, so it’s a cool move in my book and I’m all for it. I’ve seen a good bit of speculation that this role is based on the 2010 What If? story that essentially asks the question of what if Iron Man became Dr. Doom.         I don’t personally think that the MCU will be using this material too much but I also would never have guessed that they would’ve done this, so I thought it’d be worthwhi...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2024) #1 Review - RIB12

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2024) #1 Review Disclaimer: This is the first TMNT comic I think I’ve ever read, I try not to spoil anything. TLDR: The story is very intriguing though that’s not surprising knowing who the author is. The interior art is rather disappointing but I’m super picky and not an expert in that sort of stuff. On the plus side the artist did very well with the layout, it’s super readable and flows nicely. I want to see what happens next but will probably buy this in trades unless the covers are nice or I hear great things about the story as it releases.         I’ll start off this review by saying that although the turtles were a huge part of my childhood, I’ve never read one of their comics before so I didn’t really know what to expect going into this, but I thought that as a first issue it would start from the beginning. Instead, this really is a comic  first issue, so it’...

Kriegsfront Tactics - Prologue Review - RIB11

Kriegsfront Tactics - Prologue Review Disclaimer: I died on the last mission of this demo, about 70 minutes in and didn’t bother going back through to beat it. I say “today” in this review because I’m writing it at 10:30 PM EST on July 17th, but there’s a chance this will be uploaded after midnight. TLDR: The game’s pretty fun but has some minor flaws. I like the story and feel of the game, the gameplay is really nice if you want to scratch that tactical mech itch us Battletech fans feel from time to time but it’s not as complex. On the bright side it plays pretty fast, is easy to grasp, and I’m wanting to see what the full release has to offer.          Kriegsfront Tactics - Prologue  released today on Steam, for free, as a sort of demo for the full release of the game of the same name containing the first hour or so of story content. I’ve had my eyes on this for a while after seeing some...

Pendragon: The Legend Foretold Book I Review - RIB10

Pendragon: The Legend Foretold Book I Review Disclaimer: For the sake of transparency I have to say that I reached out to the creator of my own volition to review this project because I thought it looked cool. I did not ask for compensation for this review although the author offered me the hardcover as a gift. I also, of my own volition, provided feedback for the design and layout of the campaign page for no compensation after I had asked to review this book, as an afterthought I had upon seeing the campaign page and because I am a cognitive psychology research assistant at the university I attend. I’d like to emphasize that all opinions are my own, although the author has asked that I keep out some key spoilers and that I relay what the main themes and project as a whole are. TLDR: This indie comic is superb, the writing is to my taste and balances character styles well. The premise is compelling, the plot kept me engaged, and the art is eye-candy. All in all it’s a worthy project to...

X-Men '97 Review - RIB09

X-Men ‘97 Review Disclaimer: I never watched the original animated series, but I saw a recap of the events and am familiar with X-Men lore. I try to keep my reviews spoiler-free. TLDR: This is one of the best things Marvel has put out in a long time. You can go into it pretty much blind so long as you know some very basic X-Men background info, but the show fills you in on all you need to know. It’s a great watch, a little rushed, but it does everything it sets out to do very well. I really can’t recommend it enough, go watch it.          X-Men ‘97  really exceeded my expectations, I mean it. I grew up with Wolverine and the X-Men  and so I didn’t think the original would have been anything beyond a typical Saturday morning cartoon and that ‘97 was made simply as nostalgia-bait (overarching dramatic plots in cartoons are more a staple of my generation than the previous imo, but perhaps I’m wrong)...

Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #1-6 Review - RIB08

Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #1-6 Review Disclaimer: This review will contain no spoilers but will have background information, so if you want to go in totally blind then please don’t read this. I have not read the other series within the new Ultimate universe but that will probably change soon enough. TLDR: Please read this, buy the singles too.         Oh boy, it feels like I had just heard about this series but we’re already at the half-year mark, how time flies. I remember when the first issue came out, I had to call 3 different local comic shops before I found one that had a copy of the first issue in stock, as I was in college and could only find the time to go hunting for it on Friday, a good few days after its initial release. After reading it I was filled with, I kid you not, a real sense of happiness that one of my favorite heroes was getting some proper respect in an ongoing comic series with a story that needs little to no ba...

Kalki 2898 AD Review - RIB07

Image
Kalki 2898 AD Review Disclaimer: I watched this dubbed in Hindi and subbed  in English at my local theater. I have a very cursory knowledge of the Mahabharata , which is important to the plot but you don’t really need to know it to understand or enjoy the movie. This review will not contain spoilers. TLDR: This movie is action packed and a visual spectacle unlike nearly anything in Indian cinema. The plot falters a bit but a proper suspension of disbelief on the viewer’s part can lead to a very enjoyable and expansive action film.          Kalki 2898 AD  is a very interesting film. The cast is star studded and the set design is really something to behold, but an over reliance on stereotypical sci-fi tropes and flimsy worldbuilding in a 3 hour long movie brings the spectacle down just a bit. A lot of other reviews comment on the fact that the first half, which is filled with more exposition, is slower than the action-packed se...
