Arkham Horror: The Card Game Revised Edition Review - RIB23

Image
Arkham Horror: The Card Game Revised Edition Review Disclaimer: Haven’t really experienced the story or expansions, stuck to introductory and higher level difficulty plays just in two-player and solo. TLDR: If you love the aesthetic or need a co-op experience to spend an afternoon on, this should be a go-to. It’s great fun figuring out what’s next and seeing what’s thrown at you, just make sure you and the people you play with are actual team players and dig the aesthetic.          Arkham Horror: The Card Game   is a 1-4 player living card game, a term penned by Fantasy Flight Games to mean that each product sold for the game which contains cards is equal in content instead of milking you via RNG (if only so much of it weren’t out of print). Set in the world of Chaosium’s much loved Call of Cthulhu TTRPG , it’s also the 28th highest ranked game on BGG at time of writing (technically the 2016 version i...

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance Review - RIB22

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance Review Disclaimer: My only experience with the Gundam anime is IBO. I still know stuff about the UC timeline and whatnot, but IBO is all that I’ve watched entirely before this. My reviews are spoiler free, or at least I try to keep it that way. TLDR: I don’t really think this is worth your time unless you’re pretty big on Gundam. They do a lot of stuff wrong here, but there are some cool parts about it. Tough not to considering  you’ve got big robots fighting each other, but you know what I mean.          Requiem for Vengeance  was not really my cup of tea. I want to say that as I was watching this, until about the fifth episode there were multiple points where I wanted to drop it. Then the last episode further irked me because, quite frankly, it was awful. Does that mean the show itself is bad? To be honest I would say so, but to my knowledge Gundam isn’t portrayed in 3D media ...

Queen Beast Review - RIB21

Image
Queen Beast Review Disclaimer: I’ve beaten the game and gotten every achievement, it took just over 6 hours. I try to keep all my reviews spoiler free. TLDR: This is a charming and wonderful experience that I recommend to anyone with time to kill. It is also, however, a VN in the literal sense. There is no gameplay and it is a short story. The art and music are superb. There are very minor errors, nothing jarring. It is FREE on Steam, so at the very least I’d say go add it to your library. I want to see more from this world and creator.          Queen Beast  popped up on my radar when, as the broke college student that I am, I was browsing Steam for free games. I’d always been a fan of the idea of VNs, but have never engaged in any serious attempt to play them before. Call me a poser if you want, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know anything about them. I know all about the famous ones, they’re plots and rout...

Twilight Struggle Review - RIB20

Image
Twilight Struggle Review Disclaimer: I asked for and was provided a review copy courtesy of GMT Games . TLDR: This game belongs on everyone’s shelf, it’s a classic for a reason and a new favorite of mine. Very few gaming experiences that hinge on strategy make you feel the way this game does when making decisions.          Twilight Struggle   is one of the smartest games I’ve ever played. I’ll say right now that although it’s listed as a 2-3 hour game, my experience with this has taken up double that per session. This is mostly because for a new player, and even for me, thinking about what to do takes up more time than you’d think. If two confident and experienced players faced off here, they’d probably only take 2-3 hours, but I played this game with a different person each time, so although my turns were relatively short (let me not lie, I took my time), explaining things and setting up the board wh...

HyperMall: Unlimited Violence Review - RIB19

Image
HyperMall: Unlimited Violence Review Disclaimer: I asked for and was provided a review copy. Unfortunately, I’ve started up university again and am experiencing the busiest semester I’ve ever had. As such this is a mere overview, it’s my thoughts about the game after reading through the core book. I simply do not have the time to play sessions to an extent that is reasonable for releasing a thorough review, though I expect this to change in the coming weeks (hopefully). I’d like to extend my apologies to the creator for taking so long in writing this, as my intent was to help the associated Kickstarter campaign, but luckily as I’m writing this the funding goal has been met. TLDR: This project is extremely unique, creative, and humorous. I think that if you’ve got the right people around you then it would make for an unforgettable experience. The art, aesthetic, and humor alone make this worth checking out, even if you don’t see yourself playing ...

I, Napoleon Review - RIB18

Image
I, Napoleon Review Disclaimer: I asked for and was provided a review copy of the game. I played it multiple times, until I felt that I had achieved the best ending, which to me is a mix of achieving 100 or more glory, having a legitimate son, and bringing peace to Europe all in one run. TLDR: I, Napoleon  is a very engaging solitaire game. The setup and playtime is long, so it is best played on one of those days where you have an evening to yourself and are free of responsibilities. It takes a bit to get the hang of but does a great job of making you feel like the man himself, with all the glory and tension that come with the role.          I, Napoleon  marks a professional achievement for me. It’s the first board/war game I’ve asked for a review copy of, and I made a good choice. I was nervous asking for it, but the individual who helped me out at GMT Games was very nice and the process was butter-smooth. I first learned about the game ...

Uncanny X-Men (2024) #1 Review - RIB17

Image
Uncanny X-Men (2024) #1 Review Disclaimer: I haven’t read most of the Krakoa era, I began it and then life got in the way somewhere along the line. I’ve always liked the X-Men but when it comes to the comics I’m a real noob, unfortunately. I try not to spoil anything in my reviews. TLDR: This issue is pretty cool, it’s a new jumping on point for a core team of X-Men and although I am 100% missing context, this issue does great at establishing the new status quo and binding you to the characters you know and love.         You want to know something funny? This is my first Gail Simone comic, though it’s not the first thing I’ve experienced that was written by her, it’s my second. The first happened earlier today by complete coincidence, and now I am really biased in favor of the way she writes characters. I start college again in about a week, it’ll be my senior year and so it’s sort of my last summer I get to really spend with my little brother. We...
